Web 2.0 is about to change the face of business. SaaS is revolutionary, and better browser technology is finally freeing users from their desktops, allowing them to access their business and financial information from anywhere they can log in. This is due to a growing acceptance of the early entrants - the gmails - as well as improved browser technology (ie AJAX) and development tools (ie Rails).
My understanding of Web 2.0 is that it is really a collective term that describes a number of new services and sites that are becoming very popular on the internet.
These sites can split into a number of categories:
social bookmarking sites (like delicious)
social media sites (like facebook)
social news sites (like newsvine)
The one major thing that all web 2.0 sites have in common is they make the sharing of user data, and collaboration very easy.
They allow the content of a website to be almost totally user generated, and topics of interest can be voted on which can increase its standing/ranking on the site.
I’ve referenced a site you may find useful.
